HENLEY Hawks’ comeback proved in vain as they lost 32-21 at home to Fylde.

Fylde led 26-0 just before half-time, and although two tries from fly half James Comben led Hawks’ rally, it was not enough.

Wing Oliver Brennand broke through two ineffective tackles and raced in from 75 metres for Fylde’s opening try, converted by fly half Chris Johnson.

It was 14-0 after 18 minutes when Johnson found a gap on the blindside of a scrum ten metres out and converted his own try.

Wing Ben Bath added to Henley’s problems with try No 3 then hooker Tom Burtonwood crashed over for Johnson to convert.

Scrum half Luke Carter forced his way over for Henley’s first try, with Comben converting.

Hawks made the visitors struggle after the break and Comben twice wrong-footed their centres to score his try double.

He converted both to make it 26-21 and Fylde had No 8 Robert Stewart sin-binned on 66 minutes.

But Henley could not force a fourth try and were denied a bonus point by Johnson’s penalty and drop goal.
