HEAD coach Pete Wilson insists there is plenty more to come from his upwardly mobile Witney side.

Wilson and forwards coach Ritchie Craig have overseen a run of seven straight league and cup wins that have sent Witney up to fourth in South West 1 East.

But although his side are enjoying a great run of form at present, Wilson, who is also head coach of the RAF, will not let his players’ standards drop.

“We are in a positive position,” he said.

“But we have got to keep going until the end of the season.

“From where we were when we took over, having just avoided relegation, the main aim was stability.

“Next year we can really push on from here.

“The good thing is that the committee have given us free reign to experiment and bring on the young lads.”

Witney had a fairly mixed start to their season before finding their feet in 2014.

They now have an Oxfordshire Cup semi-final with Oxford Harlequins to look forward to as well as defending fourth spot.

Wilson said: “I am a perfectionist when it comes to certain things and we have still got a long way to go.

“My biggest thing is defence and we didn’t get beaten out wide against Maidenhead on Saturday, which was very good.

“Earlier in the season, we were a little bit soft and we were giving away some soft tries.

“But now we are so much harder and sides are finding it difficult to break us down.”

Witney face a real test at second-placed Towcestrians on Saturday, but will go there with confidence.

And regardless of the result, Wilson feels there is a very positive feeling around the club, exemplified by large numbers attending train- ing.

“That’s seven games unbeaten now,” said Wil- son.

“The players are responding to what we want and people are finding it good to watch.”
