RUGBY UNION: Oxford still our first choice, says Phillips

BLEDDYN Phillips has stressed London Welsh’s commitment to Oxfordshire, despite the club playing Sunday’s league match away from the county.

The Exiles host Moseley in the Greene King IPA Championship at their traditional Old Deer Park ground (12) rather than at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.

Welsh have opted to do this as they are planning a big hospitality day, with spectators encouraged to stay behind and watch England play Wales in the Six Nations crunch match afterwards.

Chairman Phillips said: “London Welsh remains fully committed to Oxfordshire, but England versus Wales at Twickenham is a long-standing event in the club’s history, and we were keen to maintain that tradition.”

Welsh will be back at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday, March 23 for the visit of Bedford.

Head coach Justin Burnell added: “It’s a big day for us on Sunday, with another big match going on afterwards just down the road.

“The Kassam is where London Welsh play their home games.

“This week is just about giving supporters a great opportunity to watch both matches.”
