Witney’s seven-match winning run in South West 1 East ended with a narrow 8-0 defeat at second-placed Towcestrians.
Fly half Ted Landray missed an early penalty for the visitors, while Towcestrians kicker James Falvey was off target with two fairly simple attempts.
The second of these came after Witney centre Henry Lamb was sin-binned for kicking the ball out of scrum half Chrissie George’s hands.
It was 0-0 at the break and Witney gained an advantage early in the second half when home loosehead prop Zak Osborne got yellow-carded.
Landray again missed the penalty, but Towcestrians upped the ante and took the lead when George touched down after a powerful scrum.
Witney lost hooker Adam Copperwheat to injury, while replacement Matt Yuill slotted a late penalty to deny the visitors a bonus point.
