Chipping Norton took full advantage of a reprieve to defeat Gosford All Blacks 31-7 in BB&O Premier Division at Stratfield Brake on Saturday.

Gosford had been leading 20-0 before last month’s original clash was abandoned on 48 minutes after referee Keith Cannock pulled a leg muscle.

The rescheduled match on Saturday proved a very different affair, with the visitors pulling away in the second half.

Kieran Phillips-Tebb went over for Chippy’s opening try, with Darren De Bruyn converting.

But Will Watts’s score, converted by Chris Bennett, levelled proceedings.

Joe Murrell bagged a second try for Chippy before the break and they pushed on strongly in the second period.

Lock Shane Newman was adjudged to have touched down try No 3, despite protests that Gos-ford prop Tom Heydon beat him to the ball.

De Bruyn converted this and a penalty try awarded after Gosford’s Ben Bodin-ham tackled Phillips-Tebb off the ball.

Gosford went close through Harry Sutton after a kick-ahead, but Chippy wrapped up the scoring with a try from replacement Josh Thornton.

Witney proved no match for Oxford University Greyhounds as they went down to a 30-14 defeat in the Oxfordshire Cup preliminary round at Iffley Road on Friday night.

Lock Johny Marsden, full back Kit Goodfellow, wing Stephen Hyde and replacement scrum half Matt Geiger went over for Oxford University’s second team.

Centre Basil Strang added two penalties and two conversions.

Witney replied with a try from flanker Marc Copperwheat, plus three penalties from full back Phil Thomas.
