Oxford University captain Jacob Taylor could not hide his dismay at their unexpected 26-26 draw with the Major Stanley’s XV.

“We were pretty disappointed about our display more than the result,” said Taylor.

“It was very humbling and shows us what we need to work on.

“We will have to look inside ourselves to come up with the answers.

“We lacked composure and weren’t executing the rugby we know we can play.”

Taylor said Oxford would be able to take a lot from the game.

But that could not mask their overall mood.

“We are a team of players who want to win matches.

“So it is deeply disappointing that we couldn’t put it all together,” he said.

“We were never able to build our own momentum and that cost us.”

Meanwhile, Oxford University are seeking out new opponents for next Monday’s home game after Northampton pulled out this week.”
