Witney made it six victories out of six in South West 1 East following a 28-9 success at Devizes on Saturday.

It saw the visitors complete the double over the Wiltshire side whom they thrashed 49-18 earlier in the season.

Witney had to absorb some early pressure from the home side, before they almost broke the deadlock on 22 minutes.

Fly half George Lewis shot through a gap, only to knock the ball on as he tried to field his own chip forward.

And it was the hosts who went ahead on 26 minutes with a Rory Brown penalty after Witney were pulled up for crossing.

However, five minutes later Witney levelled with a Lewis penalty after a Devizes player was penalised for lying on the wrong side of a ruck.

A Brown penalty restored the home side’s lead at 6-3.

And it got worse for the visitors when fly half Andy Thompson landed a superb drop-goal from outside the Witney 22, saw Devizes take a 9-3 advantage.

Just before the break, Lewis’s second penalty of the game cut the deficit to three points.

Witney started the second half with renewed determination and it paid off handsomely when they went ahead.

No 8 Joe Rowles broke forward before finding right wing James Monks, who bombed down the wing to score in the corner for an 11-9 lead, Lewis kicking the extras.

Witney extended their lead on 58 minutes with their second try.

Full back Henry Lamb broke up a Devizes attack with a huge clearance.

The ball was fed along the line to centre Jake Thomas, who broke to the line for 16-9.

Witney were the stronger side and it was no surprise when they scored a third try on 77 minutes.

Second row David Hyde charged forward before stepping out of a number of tackles and touching down, Lewis converting for a 23-9 lead. Devizes were trying to get back in the game, but the visitors’ backline held firm.

Witney wrapped up another fine team performance with try No 4, three minutes into injury time.

Strong rucking from the Witney pack saw them moveto within five metres of the Devizes line, before Ben Fisk and Charlie Bennett combined to allow scrum half Gareth Campbell to plunge over.

Chipping Norton went down to a 24-7 defeat at Gosford All Blacks in the BB&O Premier Division.

The visitors took the lead with a Harry Sutton try, with Will Watts adding the conversion before he made it 10-0 with a penalty.

Andy Schwarz then charged over, Watts adding the extras for 17-0.

After the break, Chippy lock forward Phil Jacobs went over for a try, which Barry Nutt converted from the touchline.

Gosford sealed Chippy's misery four minutes from time when Sutton raced over, with Watts converting.
