CRAIG Burrows is urging his Oxfordshire side to keep on improving ahead of their second County Championship Shield match away to Buckinghamshire tomorrow (3).

Oxfordshire travel to Buckingham in high spirits after an imperious 59-27 victory over Berkshire at Chipping Norton last weekend.

They head Pool 1 on points difference from next Saturday’s opponents Leicestershire, who demolished Buckinghamshire 45-14.

Although he was pleased with last Saturday’s performance, head coach Burrows is keen to iron out a few kinks.

“We have got a few things to work on – we can’t just rely on a similar intensity,” he said.

“The main area is our transition from defence to attack when we turnover the ball.

“We were a little slow, especially in the second half, to organise our defence.

“Apart from that it was a good performance and it is just finetuning.”

Confusion over the score at Chipping Norton still rumbles on after Oxfordshire thought they had put 63 points on the board.

However, the fourth official ruled fly half Henry Lamb had only converted four of his side’s nine tries and awarded 59.

Points difference could play a part in who tops the group and Burrows added: “We were keeping count and we had 63.

“But the fourth official insisted it was 59 and hopefully it does not come back to haunt us.

“Henry was insistent he kicked more conversions, but I don’t know what happened.”

Despite the difference in opinion over last week’s score, captain James Eckert says he and his teammates are playing with smiles on their faces.

“There is no point playing rugby at this time of the season if you are not going to enjoy it,” he said.

“If you enjoy it you will win and you don’t want it to stop.

“That is exactly how I feel at the moment and we are ready for the challenge of Bucks.”

Oxfordshire make two changes, with Oxford Harlequins’ Jack Robinson replacing Brendon White of Grove on the wing.

White, who scored a try against Berkshire, will be unavailable for the Leicestershire match and Burrows wishes to name an unchanged side for the next two games.

The other change is in the pack where Dave Wells (Grove) comes in for Jack Horwood (Bicester), who suffered a concussion during an Oxfordshire Under 23 match against Berkshire on Wednesday.
