CHRIS Bennett’s late conversion helped Gosford All Blacks end Abingdon’s winning start to the season with a 28-26 victory.

Gosford were 14-0 ahead after 12 minutes of the BB&O Premier clash, thanks to Harry Sutton and Rob Woods.

Bennett converted both tries.

Abingdon recovered and pulled themselves within two points after a Mark Roberts score and a James Webb try.

Chris Stables converted the latter.

But it was Gosford who took a 21-12 lead into half-time as Ben Bodinham stormed over and Bennett added the extras.

The hosts rallied and Callum Percival crossed, Stables converting to make it 21-19.

And Abingdon took the lead with ten minutes to go when Webb went over and Stables kicked the extras.

But Gosford battled back and Sutton levelled the match.

Bennett then converted for victory.

Alchester were beaten 16-13 at home to Crowthorne.

The visitors raced into a 13-0 lead, before an Adam Thompson penalty reduced the deficit at half-time.

Alchester started the second half well and Jack Briggs went over, before Pete Salcombe also crossed.

But a second half penalty was enough to help Crowthorne over the line.

Elsewhere, Chipping Norton edged Chesham 13-12, but Wheatley lost 22-19 to Risborough.

In the Championship, Littlemore hammered Aldermaston 45-0, but Faringdon fell to a 15-11 defeat at Berkshire Shire Hall.

Harwell lost 29-0 at Phoenix.
