WITNEY stretched their winning run to five games with a 23-8 victory away to struggling Reading on Saturday.

The visitors got off to a fast start in the South West 1 East clash, with left wing Ben Fisk racing 40 metres to touch down after just two minutes.

And 21 minutes into the match it was 16-0, with an unconverted Charlie Bennett try sandwiched by two Henry Lamb penalties.

The hosts responded with a three-pointer from Matt Smart, but Witney dominated the rest of the half without adding to the scoreboard.

In the second half, the visitors went off the boil, allowing Reading to come into the game and on 64 minutes Chris Greig crossed for an unconverted score, cutting Witney’s lead to eight points.

But it was the west Oxfordshire side who had the last say with Matt Webb going over and Lamb adding the extras.
