WITNEY got back to winning ways with a 23-8 success over Maidenhead and are now only three points off second spot in South West 1 East.

Henry Lamb’s penalty gave them an early advantage, before Gareth Campbell dived over to make it 8-0.

Maidenhead’s Tom Finney was on target with a penalty, but Witney moved 13-3 ahead at half-time when right wing Rhys Morgan raced over to score.

Lamb’s second penalty on 51 minutes put the hosts in control.

And they all but sealed victory 60 seconds later when Scott Mortimer touched down for a try that Lamb converted to make it 23-3.

They were, however, unable to add further points, and it was Maidenhead who had the last word when Finney scored an unconverted try.

But it could not dampen Witney’s success as they remain just three points off second place.
