RYAN Walsh says he is honoured to be named BB&O Championship side Oxford’s new captain.
He was chosen for the role by his fellow players through an online vote.
Walsh can’t wait to skipper the side in their league opener at home to Chipping Norton on September 10.
He said: “I am delighted and honoured to be voted by the players as their first XV captain.
“Senior rugby at the club has moved massively forward in the close season and we are all looking forward to our first league game.”
James Greenwood and Josh Jelfs have been appointed as vice-captains, while Matt Howells is club captain.
WES Westaway scored a hat-trick of tries as Bicester beat Southam 36-18 in a friendly.
Chinnor were also victorious, triumphing 29-10 over Old Albanian, but Henley lost 40-28 to a Richmond XV.
Banbury were beaten 33-5 by Birmingham Solihull andWitney fell to a narrow 24-22 loss to Cirencester.
HOST club Abingdon won the Shield at their annual sevens tournament, beating Chinnor Falcons 61-0.
