OXFORD Harlequins recorded an important 20-10 victory in their bottom-of-the-table clash at home to Reading.
As a result, they are five points clear of the Berkshire club, but still ten from safety in South West 1 East.
Quins prop Pete Boulton drove over for an unconverted try on 25 minutes.
But Reading levelled at 5-5, when centre Alex Dorliac dived over.
The home side hit back to lead 12-5 at the break, though, as No 8 Pete Alston finished off a great team move.
Sam Watkinson added the extras.
Quins started the second half strongly, stretching their lead to 17-5 on 41 minutes, when flanker Charlie Ward crossed.
Reading hit back through a Charlie Davies try, but Watkinson’s 72nd minute penalty ensured victory.
Witney suffered a 31-3 defeat at struggling Chippenham.
Ryan Parry, Ryan Surry and Bradley Doggett crossed as the home side led 19-0 at half time.
Dom Riccio converted twice.
Witney replied with a penalty from Henry Lamb after the break, but Chippenham regained control.
Dan Carter ran in from 30 metres, before a penalty try, converted by Riccio, finished the scoring.
