BOOSTED by the return of former Scotland international pro Dave Hilton, Oxford returned to the top of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Championship with 34-5 win away to Chipping Norton.

However, the star of the show was replacement winger Harry Gillett, who scored a hat-trick of tries in the second half.

With their pack firmly in control, the visitors scored first when loose head prop Callum Lake bullocked over from metres carrying half the Chippy forwards with him.

Oxford emphasised their superiority with two tries midway through the first half.

The first was a darting break from stand in captain Danny Williams and the second a trademark finish by right wing Ali Gibb, who went over for his 35th try of the season.

Thom Murtons converted the Gibb score to put them 17-0 up at the break.

Chipping Norton rallied in the second half and scored an unconverted try, but Murtons kept them under the cosh with a brace of wind-assisted punts.

Oxford remained dominant in the scrum with Pete Salcombe winning against the head.

Gillett had come onto the left wing for Elias Charlett and was the recipient of three try scoring passes directly from scrummage pressure and finished clinically.

Murtons converted his final try in the last minute to complete the scoring and take Oxford one point clear at the top.
