RUGBY UNION: Bulls well beaten
10:30am Tuesday 11th September 2012 in Rugby
Midlands 2 West South
BANBURY Bulls opened up with a disappointing 32-14 defeat at Upton-on-Severn.
Bulls blooded some new players and welcomed back flanker Will Brooks for his first start in six years.
Upton deservedly led 12-0 thanks to two tries and one conversion.
Banbury hit back with a well-worked move, which saw fly half Jed Boyle dive under the posts for full back Andrew Joubert to convert.
Upton slotted a penalty and exposed some poor defensive organisation to score two quick tries after the interval.
Bulls suffered a big blow when lock Nick Kern was taken to hospital with a badly broken finger.
Upton added a fifth try, which was converted.
Banbury had the final say, with Boyle scoring his second from a quick tapped penalty and Joubert converting, but they have a lot of improving to do.
