RUGBY UNION: Welsh must be positive - Jones
LYN Jones urged London Welsh to play without fear when they visit Italy’s Cavalieri Prato in the Amlin Challenge Cup today (1).
The Exiles’ head coach admitted his side had been embarrassed by a 68-19 defeat to Stade Francais in their opening Pool 5 clash.
But Jones (pictured) said the best way to bounce back was to be positive against the Italian league leaders.
“We are in a very busy period at the moment with four A team and four first team matches in four weeks,” said Jones.
“Winning is contagious and so is confidence.
“We just need to go out there and express ourselves, play with confidence and enjoy it.
“We need to play without fear and show how good we are.”
London Welsh recorded their first Aviva A League win of the season on Monday night, with a 30-29 success over Wasps.
Jones said: “The boys had an opportunity to put Stade Francais behind them.
“We had a really good game and it made a difference.
“There were lots of positives for us to take into the Prato game.
“It is now about confidence and understanding what is required to win games of rugby.
“There is an enthusiasm here to go out and play like the London Welsh of the 1970s.”
Jones said Welsh had been keeping close tabs on Cavalieri Prato.
“They are a good side,” he said. “Half their side is Italian and half South Sea islanders and they have got some good individuals.
“It is about about us breaking the game up as much as we can.
“We have got some good wingers and want to use them.”
