RUGBY UNION: Chippy sunk by buoyant Bicester

Oxfordshire Shield

Chipping Norton were stunned by holders Bicester, who won their Oxfordshire Shield first round clash 18-0 at Greystones.

The hosts have not lost a game in the BB&O Premier Division all season and scored 102 points the previous week, but came unstuck against a motivated Bicester.

Chippy lost captain Jon Hickman to injury after just seven minutes, although Bicester were without star forward Dan Spencer due to work commitments.

Bicester took the lead shortly after Hickman left the field with captain and scrum half Steve Risbridger charging in at the right-hand corner.

Risbridger's penalty put the visitors 8-0 up.

Ten minutes into the second half, flanker Anthony Nightingale found lock Martin Linstrom with a superb pass and the latter beat three defenders to touch down.

Bicester No 8 Rob Thurlow was sin-binned on 59 minutes, but Chippy couldn't capitalise.

Prop Will Morris pounced on a lineout fumbled to score Bicester's third try late on, while Chippy had fly half Adam Smith sin-binned.
