RUGBY UNION: Battling Chippy on the brink of title

Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier

Leaders Chipping Norton were pushed all the way in the BB&O Premier Division as they won 35-22 at Abingdon in gale force winds.

Abingdon, who were missing seven regulars, began with the wind behind them and took the lead through Ben Humpage's penalty.

A scintillating move ended with full back Voite scoring the first try and Humpage's conversion made it 10-0.

Chippy showed their potency with two tries in two minutes from Adam Smith and Barry Nutt, Smith converting both.

The visitors maintained their momentum after the break with Smith converting tries from Ian Hancock and Meryck Royce.

Chippy replacement Sam Townsend was sin-binned for a high tackle and Abingdon rallied with wing Adam Boodell scoring and Humpage converting.

The visitors added a final score, which Smith converted.

But Moses Rasada notched for Abingdon with the final play.
