RUGBY UNION: Strutt's core seals tight encounter

Having lost nine times by a single score, Witney finally edged a nail-biter, winning 7-3 at home to Buckingham in Southern Counties North.

Witney barely left their own half in the first period as Buckingham made good use of the elements.

Flanker Rory Cookson gained some ground and wing Lewis Collins had one chance, but Witney were happy to limit their visitors to a penalty.

The second half wasn't much better, but Witney's try came from a typical James Lamb dump tackle.

James Elwood picked up the loose ball and fed Carl Strutt, who glided in under the posts and Henry Lamb converted.

Witney held on with conviction after that.
