RUGBY UNION: Ten-try Chippy close in on title

Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division: Chipping Norton all but guaranteed themselves the title with a 67-5 victory at Swindon College.

Chippy continued the good form they had shown in two friendlies over the Easter break and ran in 10 tries against a Swindon side who have proved difficult to beat at home.

Jamie Lakin opened the scoring with a penalty, with Andy Chapman, Tom Hall and Robbie Naish soon crossing over to give Chippy clear breathing space.

Lakin converted one, while their back row of Jason Gillett, Ashley Nasir and Matt Dawson were now running the show.

Barry Nutt was next to score after Meryck Royce and Aaron Tustin combined well, allowing Sam Townsend to create the overlap.

Lakin added a penalty and converted a try from Ian Hancock with Swindon bagging their only try in between.

Chippy maintained their momentum after the break with Lakin bagging another penalty and Hancock notching his second try.

Hall and Tustin, Dawson and Lakin wrapped up the try-scoring with the latter converting two.

Chippy will be crowned champions if they defeat Phoenix at home on April 12.

But even if they lose their two remaing games, their points difference advantage should see them pip Bicester, who are now also promoted.
