Choral music from three continents
The Witney Music Society's winter programme continues at 7.30pm on Friday, with a return performance by Choros, a semi-professional chamber choir, based in rural north Oxfordshire. They have entitled the concert Around the World in Eighty Minutes, and will be singing choral music from three continents, including works by Brahms, Mews, Howells, and Whitacre.
Choros was formed in 1993 by its conductor Janet Linc, and is noted for its innovative programming, high standard of performance, and commitment to local, as well as established venues.
Although the choir often performs in London, they enjoy really the intimacy of a small rural venue, where they are close to their audience and can perform directly to them, which is why they are looking forward to their Witney concert, which will take place at Wood Green School.
The members of Choros, which can number anything from 16 to 30 at any given concert, come from a wide area and meet on a regular basis to rehearse. They are all experienced choristers with voices that are characterful, yet blend well together, who enjoy singing together and bringing music to the more rural areas of Oxfordshire.
During their time together, Choros have made an excellent CD recording entitled He Came all so stille, which is a collection of Advent carols and motets and many of the works the choirs have sung in recent years when performing a candlelight carol concert.
Tickets for this concert can be purchased on the door on the night.
