How the county has changed since 1945
Families planning a trip into the countryside during the Easter holidays can take a step back in time and visit The Oxfordshire Museum, Woodstock, where a new gallery exhibition, spanning 60 years of the county's rural history, is on display.
The exhibition shows the rapid changes that have occurred in farming, transport, and rural development in the county since 1945. It's an interactive exhibition, designed to intrigue visitors of all ages.
Starting with a nostalgic view of country life, recorded in 1946 in the film 24 Square Miles, which featured village activities near Banbury, the exhibition quickly turns to more recent events.
Visitors will be able to use Google Earth to see a satellite view of the county, and then zoom in to find out more.
There's also a chance to find out about food rationing, new crops found in Oxfordshire, and see how the railways and roads have changed over many decades.
Organisers are convinced that this exhibition will offer something to surprise everyone, particularly children.
Councillor Jim Couchman, Oxfordshire County Council's cabinet member for social and community services, said: "This is a fascinating glimpse at the rural ways of life in Oxfordshire. I hope everyone will take advantage of this free exhibition."
Visitors to the museum during the holidays will also be able to delight in the sight of a carpet spring flowers in the garden, making it the perfect place to enjoy a break and a cup of coffee from the museum's cafe.
Entrance to the museum is free, and opening hours are: Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sunday 2pm to 5pm. Closed Mondays. Last admission 4.45pm.
