A delightful story about vegetable growers

Size really does matter when it comes to growing vegetables, especially if you are entering them into a competition.

To the Marrow is a delightful theatrical production on its way to The Theatre, Chipping Norton, on Friday, April 4.

Staged by Forest Forge Theatre Company, it's the story of arch-rivals Ed and Miles, who are competitive vegetable growers. They believe in the old adage size matters, and are both determined their marrows will be larger than anything ever grown before. However, they both approach their vegetable growing in different ways. Miles rather fancies himself, because he has a small slot on local radio as their 'garden expert', whereas Ed has a much more hands-on approach.

Each year, they compete in the annual village show, where things get rather tense, but as they are brothers-in-law, married to twin sisters, they can't avoid each other.

While Ed and Miles are trying to put pounds on their vegetables, Miles' wife is trying to shed them from her thighs, and Ed's wife is longing for something more out of life than a husband who spends all his time on the allotment.

Woven into this play are several comedy sketches, including one about the slugs who come out at night, and the mating rituals of the sunflower.

This amusing show has been devised and written by members of the Forest Forge Theatre Company, who, for the past 22 years, have been bringing live theatre to rural areas.

They are delighted to be visiting Chipping Norton, and hope that they will be able to meet members of the audience in the pub after the show for a pint and a chat.

The curtain goes up at 8pm, tickets can be booked by ringing 01608 642350.
