EVERYONE loved the comedian Linda Smith, who died in 2006 following a battle with cancer.
She was the one who excelled at delivering diatribes about everyday irritations, which we all understood, but had never seen the funny side of before.
In 2002, Linda was voted The Wittiest Living Person by listeners to BBC Radio 4's Word of Mouth.
Those who knew Linda considered her to be one of the smartest, funniest, and most sweet-natured people they had encountered, and described her style of comedy as beguiling, but often waspish.
Her first appearances on national radio was on Radio 5's The Treatment in 1997. She went on to become a regular panellist on The News Quiz, and often appeared on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, Have I Got News For You, Mock the Week, Countdown, and QI. She also wrote and starred in her own Radio 4 sitcom, Linda Smith's A Brief History of Timewasting.
A unique show celebrating her life and featuring an hilarious selection of stand-up monologues and sketches from her career will be staged at The Theatre, Chipping Norton, on Wednesday, April 16, at 8pm.
Her partner, Warren Lakin, will be joined on stage by special guests from the world of theatre, music, and comedy to pay tribute to Linda.
Special musical guest Barb Jungr will be singing a selection of songs from her album Do The Right Woman - Hymn to Nina, which was her homage to Nina Simone.
For every ticket sold £1 will go to the Ovarian Cancer Action. Reserve your ticket by phoning the box office, on 01608 642350.
