Thriller with a wonderful twist at the end

The Bartholomew Players, have chosen a diamond of a play which really sparkles with wit, for their spring production at the Eynsham Village Hall.

It's Double Cut, by the late Alfred Shaughnessy, known for the many popular television plays he wrote, including Upstairs, Downstairs. He also wrote two novels and 12 film scripts and a number of fascinating stage plays, including Double Cut, which the Players say is an ingenious thriller, with a wonderful twist at the end.

Double Cut is set in a luxury villa on the Costa del Sol, owned by the diamond heiress Olivia Prescoll. All is well until an enigmatic stranger turns up at the villa, who claims to be Olivia's brother. Although Olivia doesn't believe him, the stranger knows so many trivial details about their past family life, it's difficult to turn him away.

When he produces papers that verify his identity, Olivia's hysteria mounts, despite the fact that he manages to convince everyone else of his identity.

It's soon discovered that £10m of diamonds have gone missing, and the finger points at the stranger, obviously this is why he has turned up - or is it? The tension begins to mount as the last act of this this well written thriller reaches its climax.

The Players are confident that it's going to prove an exciting production, which will have members of the audience sitting on the edge of their seats towards the end.

The curtain goes up on Double Cut at the Eynsham village hall at 7.45pm, from Wednesday, May 14, to Friday, May 16. Tickets are available at Evenlode DIY, or at the door on the night.
