A STAINED glass window marking Britain’s entry into the First World War was blessed by the Bishop of Dorchester on Monday.

The panes of coloured glass were unveiled at Banbury Town Hall by the Rt Rev Colin Fletcher.

The town hall is also holding an exhibition by the Red Cross about its work in the town during the 1914-18 War.

Town council leader Kieron Mallon said: “We wanted to recognise the part Banbury played in the Great War, abroad and on the home front.

“Around 1,500 men and women worked in a huge munitions factory in Grimsbury and Red Cross nurses treated injured soldiers in a hospital in West Street.

“Monday was a poignant tribute to everyone involved in the conflict.”

A second window was unveiled at the town hall on Monday, celebrating the birth of Prince George.

They cost £16,000 and were funded by public donations.
