PUPILS from two Oxfordshire schools explored the links between chemistry and art through learning about molecules.

Students from Didcot Girls’ School and The Cooper School in Bicester built 3D molecular models to learn how mirror images can have different smells. The Year 10 pupils, aged 14 to 15, constructed the models at the Museum of the History of Science last week.

The workshop was organised by Oxford University’s Department of Chemistry as part of a collaboration with Ashmolean Museum. The session explored how mirror images of molecules created by chemists can give compounds different properties and uses, which is important in the pharmaceutical industry.
