THE walls of Ditchley Park usually resound to the sound of international affairs and global policy-making being discussed.

But next week the historic home of the Ditchley Founda-tion, between Charlbury and Kiddington, takes on a more glamorous role as a fashion show venue.

For the second year running, Lady Penny Holmes, wife of the foundation’s director Sir John Holmes – a former British Ambassador to France – has invited designer Daniel Blake to show his latest collection there, and raise money for Women for Women International.

Lady Holmes said. “When the conferences aren’t taking place, we’re allowed to use Ditchley for other events, including giving a home to charities four times a year.

“I have been involved with Women for Women for a little while, and I met Daniel Blake at a fashion show in Paris which my friend was hosting.

“He likes to raise money for charity, so I suggested that he use Ditchley Park for a show. We had a wonderful time and raised £3,500.

"His clothes are absolutely lovely and I did a presentation about the charity – so we were raising money and awareness.”

Women for Women International supports female survivors of all ages of wars and civil conflicts around the world. They are given health care and psychological help.

Lady Holmes added: “Then they are given the tools and resources to move from a state of crisis to a stable life. They are taught the skills to enable them to set up a business, and get a tiny amount of money to get them going.

“The charity aims to change the world via one woman at a time – it’s a simple and wonderful mission statement.”

Mr Blake, who is based in London, specialises in womenswear, creating made-to-order wardrobe essentials.

Tuesday’s show, from noon to 3.30pm, will preview his spring and summer collection.

Tickets cost £25 each and are available at danielblake.co.uk/ditchley_park.html
