Mrs Souster has named four people – Tom Smith (back row on left), Clifford ‘Frank’ Barnes (back row, behind vicar), Ida Barnes (front row on left), and Theresa Smith (second from right). Mr and Mrs Barnes were Mrs Souster’s great uncle and aunt.
THE people of Newland, Witney, celebrated the Coronation, but how and where?
Alison Souster, of Ducklington, who sent in this picture, writes: “I am guessing these are people who organised some kind of community event. I know the community is Newland, rather than Witney generally, because I recognise so many of the faces.
“I don’t know exactly where in Newland it was taken, but there was a clubhouse alongside Madley Brook, later used for boxing or wrestling, I believe, and it could perhaps be outside that.”
Can anyone name any more, identify the venue or tell us about the occasion?
