OLD WOODSTOCK’S annual day of mock mayor-making revelry takes place on Saturday.

Candidates for the post of mock mayor will make the traditonal outlandish and unrealistic claims about what they can achieve if given ‘office’ at the hustings at the Black Prince pub, in Manor Road, at 6pm.

The day’s events also include an afternoon fete and the procession to Woodstock Town Hall to ‘confront’ the Mayor of Woodstock.

This event first took place in 1786 and was held every year until 1928. It was revived briefly in the 1950s and has been held every year since 1984 to raise money for many local charities.

The events start at 3pm with the fete.
