PLANS to buy a bus to be used as temporary accommodation for homeless people will be brought before the city council this evening.
Homes4All wants to purchase a double decker by the end of the year but is dependent on Oxford City Council for cash.
A similar scheme is currently run by the Ark Project in Reading, and people in Witney were given a chance to a look around the converted vehicle yesterday.
Representatives from Homes4All brought the bus to the town’s Market Square, giving people the opportunity to see how a similar scheme may function in Oxfordshire.
Craig Simmons, deputy leader of the city council’s Green group, will call on the council to invest £20,000 of reserves into the project at a meeting starting at 5.30pm in the Town Hall.
In his motion to the council, Mr Simmons, said: “This council recognises that, despite on-going efforts to prevent the need for people to sleep rough on Oxford’s streets, there remains a large number of individuals in Oxford– namely those without an officially recognised local connection – for whom no immediate solution is available.”
