BADGER culling could come to Oxfordshire for the first time.

The government revealed yesterday that a county landowner or landowners have applied for a licence to shoot the animals.

Residents now have two weeks to comment on the application before the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs makes a decision.

The badger cull is aimed to stop the spread of bovine tuberculosis carried by badgers between herds of cattle.

However it has proved hugely controversial, with animal rights campaigners pointing out that shot badgers are not being tested for bovine TB.
