HUNDREDS packed out the historic grounds at Blenheim Palace to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for a cancer charity.

Television presenter of Loose Women fame Andrea McLean joined the 730 men and women who put their best feet forward at the Breast Cancer Care’s Pink Ribbon Walk.

The event on Saturday, the 14th in its history, saw the host of charity goers walk the 10 and 20 mile circuits in and around the Oxfordshire grounds in a bid to raise some £190,000 for the charity.

Event manager, Preena Mistry, said of the event: “The Blenheim Palace Pink Ribbon Walk is always an incredible day filled with so much emotion for everyone involved.

"People were taking part for so many reasons, including those who are going through breast cancer treatment, those who have had treatment, and friends and family of people affected.

“We want to thank everyone who took part because with their help, Breast Cancer Care can continue to support the thousands of people diagnosed with the most common cancer in the UK every year.”

One of the hundreds of women taking part in the charity walk was TV presenter Andrea McLean who said there was a personal motivation for getting involved in the event.

She said: "I always do whatever I can to support Breast Cancer Care.

"I originally got involved with the charity because my mum had a lump removed – it was the very early stages of breast cancer but she was fine.

"Since then, I’ve had many friends that have been diagnosed and while it’s really important to have cancer charities that raise money for research, caring for people who have breast cancer is really crucial.”

Organisers said at the event on Saturday that they aimed to raised £190,000 for their efforts at the two charity walks.

To date Breast Cancer Care's Pink Ribbon Walks have raised more than £12million for the UK-wide charity which provides care, information and support to people affected by breast cancer.

The next Pink Ribbon Walk will take place at Audley End House and Gardens, Saffron Walden, on June 9. To sign up and for further information visit breastcancercare.org.uk/ribbonwalk.
