A SPECIAL newsletter aimed at older residents in West Oxfordshire has been given an enthusiastic reception.

Our Generation is packed with news, features and information designed to illustrate the wealth of services and activities provided by West Oxfordshire District Council.

The cover story features a picture of John Munro, who plays walking football at Charlbury Community Centre every week – an activity laid on by the council’s leisure provider GLL Better.

Mr Munro, 61, said: “When I turned 60 I wanted to ensure I remained as fit as possible and this publication has some useful information on activities such as walking football which I really enjoy."

Residents at the Homestead care home in Carterton were also delighted to see the range of activities and services which they can add to their already impressive list.

They include Renee Woodward who may be 100 but is a great believer in staying active, practising Tai Chi and attending dance classes every week.

Caroline Anderson, care manager, said: “The newsletter is a useful resource with lots of advice about retaining independence and how to get support. It is fantastic that it shows older people in a positive light.”

CNorman MacRae, elderly persons champion at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This is a fantastic publication which is a real goldmine of information for older residents about council services and activities which they may not even be aware of.

“We are already receiving some great feedback which highlights the importance of engaging with this growing sector of the population.”
