A ROBBER pushed a man to the ground and stole his phone and money before punching him in the face.

The attack happened in Witney between 12am and 1.30am on Sunday morning, which police described as a 'busy time'. 

The 36-year-old victim was walking home from the town centre when he was shoved from behind in The Crofts, close to Corn Street.

He fell down and the robber demanded his phone and money, which he handed over.

The thief then punched the man in the face before fleeing.

He is described as a white man in his late 20s, of medium build.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap with a white emblem on the peak, a dark tracksuit and white trainers.

The victim was injured by the blow and treated at Witney Community Hospital, but has has since been discharged.

Investigating officer PC Laura Oakes, based at Witney police station, said: "This incident happened at a busy time of night.

"I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this or who has any information which they think could be relevant.

"If you have any details which could be relevant to our investigation, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101."
