MORE THAN 100 people of all ages participated in a family boot camp to celebrate Bone Cancer Awareness Week.

The event was organised by Gareth Jones from Carterton gym Fitbeing and included a specially constructed, team based, obstacle course in the grounds of Eynsham Hall.

Participants raised £655.17 for Liberty’s Legacy, a special research fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust set up by the parents of Liberty Schurer.

In October 2017, Liberty lost her life to Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer which mainly affects children and young people, two weeks after her 14th birthday.

Liberty’s mother, Karen, said: "One year on, while we feel Liberty’s loss more deeply than ever, we have been truly humbled and touched by everyone’s efforts to help us fulfil her wishes."

Marlies Pickering, one of the event organisers, added: "The assault course was set up really well.

"It was challenging, but Gareth made sure we all knew what to do.

"The kids were amazing, they loved the zip wire and water slide and it was great to see them getting stuck in and helping each other."
