A NEW tower for swifts at Oxford University Parks has won planning permission from the city council.

The new tower will aim to provide much-needed nesting spaces for the city’s swifts and construction work is expected to start in the new year.

The tower was designed by wildlife lover Jonathan Wheeler from Lower Radley, near Abingdon, as part of a competition run by the RSPB.

It is part of the bird charity's much wider Swift City project for Oxford which aims to create more places for the birds to live in the urban environment.
