OXFORDSHIRE came together in silence to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

In Oxford hundreds of people lined the parade route along St Giles' for Remembrance Sunday, which this year fell on Armistice Day, in what was one of the largest turn outs many had ever seen.

Residents, politicians and dignitaries joined former and serving members of the armed forces for a two minutes silence during a moving ceremony held beneath the St Giles' War Memorial.

At the same time large crowds gathered in towns and villages across the county.

Oxford saw former and serving members of the military march to the War Memorial in St Giles' ahead of the ceremony this morning. 

A warm round of applause was held for the veterans who took part in the parade.
