A BUS company’s campaign to back charities with eye-catching liveries has added its latest addition to its fleet.

The Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group’s charity logo is now emblazoned across a double-decker bus.

Oxford Bus Company bosses say the transformation is helping to brighten up Oxford’s streets and highlight an important cause.

The bus will be used across various services in the county, to help spread the charity’s message far and wide.

The bus company, which previously backed Oxford Pride with a new livery, selected the Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group as one of its charity partners as some of its employees have been affected by the disease.

Managing director Phil Southall, said: “The bus looks fantastic and we are proud to back the Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group as one of our chosen charity partners.

“Some of our colleagues have suffered with prostate cancer in recent years and so it is a cause that is close to our hearts. Therefore, it felt right to partner with a local charity that does so much to help people affected by prostate cancer.

“We are hopeful the bus will help raise awareness of the importance of preventative care, via regular check-ups to ensure people get help early if they need it.”

John Grundy, chairman of Oxfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group, said: “We’re enormously grateful to Oxford Bus Company for their collaboration in allowing us to take our message through the streets of Oxfordshire for three years. Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men, but if detected early it can be treated effectively. So don’t miss the bus – get checked.

“We support men diagnosed with prostate cancer and their partners and families and raise awareness and convince men to get checked.

“This wonderful bus will really help us raise awareness.

“Men over 50 should talk to their GP about having a blood test and men who have a relative who has had the disease, and black men, who are at greater risk genetically, should have a check from 45 onwards.”

Earlier this year the company launched a rainbow themed Oxford Pride Bus to help celebrate diversity in the city.

Oxford Pride was selected as one of the company’s chosen charity and community partners for 2018.

It also follows the theme of the gradual introduction of rainbow colours to 11 services since 2015, resulting in a different colour bus for each service.

The Oxford Bus Company’s commitment to support charities and good causes by wrapping buses will culminate in a third bus being decked out in the colours of the winner of the Brand the Bus’ competition.
