A CYCLE company is bidding to bag a cash boost from a superstore's scheme that rewards community projects.

Windrush Bike Project, from Witney, has been shortlisted for the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, which sees money raised from carrier bag sales given to local groups.

The Bags of Help scheme, run in association with environmental organisation Groundwork, awards grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 to three organisations, with shoppers choosing who takes the top amount.

Voting is open at all Tesco stores in Witney and Kidlington during November and December, with customers casting their vote using a token given to them at the check-out each time they shop.

The project trains volunteers to gain confidence through rescuing and refurbishing abandoned bikes.

Since forming in March 2017, it has delivered courses for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and trained more than 550 children to ride a bike.
