PRO-European groups calling for a 'People’s Vote' are set to continue campaigning in force across Oxfordshire.

While the Prime Minister battles to get her deal through parliament, campaigners in Didcot, Chipping Norton, Wantage, Bicester, Witney, Wallingford and various other towns are calling for another referendum.

Activists have been holding regular stalls in an effort to persuade the public, who voted 52 per cent in favour of leaving the EU in 2016.

However, pressure has since grown for another referendum on the terms of the deal that has been negotiated, ahead of Britain's departure in March.

Open Britain Didcot's Anne-Marie Simpson said: “MPs are hiding from reality - and their constituents - Ed Vaizey doesn’t get it - a bad deal is a bad deal - so much has changed - promises have been broken - this isn’t remotely what was voted for over two years ago - time to go back to the people for an informed vote.”

Open Britain Bicester Dan Murphy added: “The mood has changed in Bicester – Cherwell has moved 5% and is now remain – given what I hear on the streets, I expect it to move further as cabinet chaos continues.”

"It's now time for remain-voting Victoria Prentis to get off the fence, stand up for the best interests of her constituents, and stop following the tired old party line that Brexit is the 'will of the people' and must be forced through regardless of the impact it will have on the most vulnerable people in her constituency.”

"The evidence shows that 'the people' have already changed their minds - and continue to do so - now they know what Brexit would actually mean for them, their families and the country”

South Oxfordshire District Councillor John Cotton dismissed the campaign, saying:"We had a people's vote in 2016 and the people said we should leave the European Union and I hope that's what we do.

"We can't keep asking the question without implementing the answer from last time round.

The Conservative former council leader continued: "The nature of the Brexit we are going to get is very unclear at the moment, but those saying that there will be no Brexit need to be very careful about undermining the democracy that has been so important to our nation."

Meanwhile, Robin Storey, from Open Britain Thame criticised his local MP, addding: “John Howell has failed to engage at any one of the street stalls held every week for months in Thame or Henley, yet his predecessor, Lord Heseltine, openly calls for cross-party support for a Peoples Vote to end this calamity, saying generations to come will not forgive us.”
