WITNEY Town Council has chosen its new leader.
David Harvey, of South Ward, was elected by members at a full council meeting last night, while West Ward councillor Harry Eaglestone will be deputy leader.
Mr Harvey, who had been interim leader since former council chief Dean Temple resigned in October, will remain in the role until May after receiving six votes for and two against.
Mr Eaglestone received seven votes for and one abstention.
He was first elected to the council in 1999 and has been a district councillor since 1998.
Mr Harvey currently sits on the sports and recreation and community services committees, and the skateboard and BMX track and lake and country park sub-committees.
His predecessor cited 'work commitments' for his resignation.
