PLANS to build homes on the site of Rose Hill's former community centre, advice centre and scout hut are set to be approved next week.

If it goes ahead, 43 new homes could be built, funded by the Government’s Oxfordshire Housing and Growth Deal.

The council wants to build 25 flats – 13 of which would be one-bedroom flats and 12 two-bedroom flats – on the site of the former Rose Hill Community Centre in The Oval.

Planning officers said the development would 'bring about the positive reuse of a brownfield site for the purposes of providing much-needed affordable housing for the city and would assist in the aims of delivering housing-led regeneration in Rose Hill'.

The other complex, which would be built in Ashhurst Way, would mean another 18 flats are built following the demolition of the former advice centre and scout hut.

All of those would be socially rented flats if they are accepted by city councillors.

With all of the homes anticipated to be affordable, it would obviously exceed the 50 per cent share which the city council usually asks for in new housing developments like this one.

The plans will be decided by the city council’s East Area planning committee at a meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting will be held from 6pm at Oxford Town Hall.
