A POIGNANT video of a cancer patient has been released by an Oxford hospice following her death.

Julia Kibblewhite was filmed on the ward at Sobell House Hospice, just weeks before she lost her life to breast cancer at the age of 74.

The heartfelt film spans five minutes and depicts the Witney resident discussing her relationship with the Headington hospice.

She said in the video: "I first came to Sobell's day centre in 2015...it's been such a huge help, I've never looked back. I've been fortunate enough to have this support.

"The day centre allows you to think about what might be happening in your future and process your feelings about death and dying."

She explained how she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which then spread to her lung, 24 years ago, and has been supported by her husband Robert.

Witney Gazette:

Speaking from her room at Sobell, she tells the camera: "On my 74th birthday I had this episode of heart failure.

"When I came here [to the hospice] I just breathed a sigh of relief, because Sobell is such a peaceful place.

"To have a peaceful death is a wonderful thing.

"I want people to be around my husband to listen to him and help him into the next stage of his life."

She said it can be difficult to talk to friends about bereavement because it is 'not in our culture' to talk about death.

Mrs Kibblewhite died at Sobell House on Sunday, January 13, and recorded the video in late December while she was on the ward.

In 2016 the Oxford Mail met Mrs Kibblewhite at the day centre, where she spoke about how the hospice had helped her.

She said at the time: "I’d be very happy to go on the ward when that time comes.

"The scary thought for me is that one day I will actually die - but I know that every Thursday when I go to Sobell, I’ll be able to talk about that."

The video was released with Mr Kibblewhite's blessing and was produced for the hospice by F.J.West Films.
