A 17-YEAR-OLD stabbed a man in the street with a pen knife, a court heard.

Emman Riasat - now 18, and of of Outram Road, Oxford, denies one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and another of unlawful wounding.

Jurors at the start of his trial at Oxford Crown Court today were told that Riasat was spotted by his alleged victim at Nowell Road in the Rose Hill area of Oxford at about 4pm on April 12 last year.

Outlining the case against him prosecutor Alexandra Bull said that the alleged victim, Azhar Hussain, had known Riasat for many years.

When he saw Riasat standing outside his home he left to ask him what he was doing there, the court heard.

In response, jurors were told, Riasat said ‘I will show you’ and pulled out what was described as a large pen knife measuring three inches.

A scuffle ensued in which Riasat stabbed his victim, Miss Bull said, and after he fled the scene Mr Hussain was treated in hospital.

As a result of the stabbing, prosecutors said, he sustained a gaping wound to his upper left arm measuring between five and six centimetres.

When he was later arrested, the court heard, Riasat answered no comment under questioning but later claimed that Mr Hussain had been the aggressor and had been the one carrying the knife.

He claimed that the injury could have occurred as a result of the scuffle but said that he was not the instigator and never had a knife.

The trial, expected to last three days, continues.
