TWO Oxfordshire locations have been named among the best places to live in the country.

Jericho and the West Oxfordshire town of Charlbury were included in The Sunday Times's list of best places to live in the south east.

The newspaper has named its 101 Best Places to Live in Britain for 2019, with the winner announced on Sunday.

Jericho's first every entry on the list is thanks to a style that is 'anything but suburban, and has spruced itself up from its student digs days'.

The guide adds: "Away from the tourist throngs and prosaic chains in the city centre, the bohemian neighbourhood of Jericho, just to the north, is a self-contained haven."

The neighbourhood was also named the UK's 11th 'most hip' destination in 2017, but only the very wealthy will be able to afford a home there: a mid-market property costs an eye-watering £1,732,830, according to the Sunday Times.

This is almost five times as much as the 'unspoilt country town' of Charlbury, in the north west of the county, where the average home costs £353,050.

The town boasts its own railway station and hosts several events each year, including the Riverside and Wilderness music festivals every summer.

Other much-anticipated events include Charlbury Street Fair and Charlbury Beer Festival, with the latter hosting the Aunt Sally Singles World Championship.

Petworth, in West Sussex, was named the best location in the region.

Helen Davies, The Sunday Times home editor said, "Finding our very own best place to live now feels more important than ever, for our wellbeing and wealth, happiness and health.

She added: "This year we were looking for community spirit along with convenience and culture. There is so much going on around the country, and so many great places that the choice was a hard one."
