A PARKING restriction on High Street and St Aldates from midday to 8pm is set to be scrapped.

Oxfordshire County Council said that it recently established that it 'cannot use' the current signs restricting waiting and loading during those hours on the double yellow lines on both sides of High Street and St Aldates.

Instead, it is now proposing to put up new signs with the peak hour loading ban already used for the rest of the city – no loading 7.30am to 9.30am and 4pm to 6.30pm.

The proposal is just one of several new traffic restrictions being planned for High Street and St Aldates which the council has launched a public consultation on this month.

Oxford Mail:

The authority is also planning to replace the current bus stopping area outside the Covered Market with a two-car daytime taxi rank and space for loading.

The council said the taxi rank was needed because the rank currently marked out on the south side of High Street by the former Nat West bank has never been used due to the congestion issues it caused.

Another plan is to remove a loading bay by the Mitre pub because it is causing congestion.
