He is used to performing to audiences of thousands in stadiums across the world, but tonight, Enter Shikari frontman Roughton ‘Rou’ Reynolds, will swap his usual surroundings of stadium and festival stages, and head indoors to the cosier confines of Blackwell’s Bookshop in Broad Street, Oxford.

The 33 year-old will visit the historic bookshop to launch the band’s new book Dear Future Historians: The Lyrics and Exegesis of Rou Reynolds for the music of Enter Shikari 2006-2019.

Since the band formed as a group of schoolboys in 2003, they’ve reached dizzy heights with their eclectic mix of rock and electronica.

Known for their deeply personal and politicised music, ‘electronicore’ pioneers Enter Shikari are among the most influential bands of their generation, producing five bestselling albums and a plethora of bestselling singles and covering subjects from climate change to Trump’s presidency.

Formed in St Albans in 1999, the band features lead vocalist and keyboardist Rou, bassist Chris Batten, drummer Rob Rolfe and guitarist Liam ‘Rory’ Clewlow.

Their debut studio album, Take to the Skies, reached number four; their second, Common Dreads, debuted at number 16; while their third, A Flash Flood of Colour, also reached the top four.

Their fifth studio album The Spark was released in 2017.

Dear Future Historians: 2006-2019 delves into the heart of the band, and features Rou’s song interpretations and social commentary, alongside all of the band’s lyrics to date.

Oxford Mail:

“This would have been something I would have loved from the bands that I listened to growing up, and would still love from bands I listen to now,” he says during a rare break from touring.

“I’m a strong believer that dissection and analysis of music or art does not diminish it or reduce its magic.

“As Beethoven said, ‘Don’t only practice your art, but force your way into its secrets; art deserves that’.

“I hope readers of this piece of explanatory literature will find it exciting and interesting.”

Rou will be meeting fans and signing copies of Dear Future Historians at the store from 5-6pm.
