STUDENTS from Oxford Brookes will tonight unveil their new racing car.
Oxford Brookes Racing’s (OBR) 2019 Formula Student car will be shown off in the JHB Forum on Headington Campus.
Various dignitaries are due to attend the event, which will also feature a Virtual Reality (VR) version of the single-seat vehicle.
The new car is the culmination of a year of detailed planning, designing and building by the students, in the 20th year that OBR has competed in the competition - but the first year in which their car is electric.
OBR is among the UK’s most successful teams in the history of the Silverstone-based competition - the world’s largest in student motorsport.
Students are challenged to design, build and race a single-seat race car in one year.

The cars are judged on speed, acceleration and endurance, while the teams are put through their paces in on design, costing and business presentation skills.
OBR’s team – mainly engineering, maths and computer science students – hail from a range of countries, including the USA, Mexico, Colombia, South Africa.

The aim of the project is to inspire students to develop their professional, managerial and entrepreneurial skills, notably in their use of 3D printing in the car's design.
Maria Fatialofa, sponsors RPS' marketing manager, said: “We believe it is important to support and mentor the future graduates of STEM education and we are very pleased to be working with the students at OBR.”
