RED often signals danger but Camera Club had nothing to fear from this week's challenge with an impressive array of entries featuring everything from cocktails to cockerels.

The striking shade as the lone focus of a shot helped several submissions stand out.

Witney Gazette:

A single telephone box in the middle of an empty countryside landscape by Steve Clarke was a favourite, as was Bryan Robertson's image of a windsurfer out on Farmoor Reservoir.

We also enjoyed red captured as a blur of motion in both Ian Marriott and Geoffrey Hill's submissions.

People in red was another popular choice.

Witney Gazette:

We especially liked a runner looking like they were having a great time in Witney by Trish Davies and the look of intense concentration on a little girl's face as she consults a zoo guide in a picture by Denise Gurden.

There were also plenty of fiery hues to be found in nature.

Some of our favourites included a small damselfly sat on a bright yellow flower in Sunningwell taken last summer by Allen Dannfald.

Witney Gazette:

We love the contrast of the unusually-coloured insect and the vibrant petal.

Another stand out was Keith Worthington's spectacular shot of a poppy.

With only the single flower in focus every delicate detail is highlighted, the soft backdrop, including a buzzing bee, adding a perfect contrast.

Creature captures that we enjoyed included a fox sitting in an Oxfordshire field. Snapper Duncan Becker said of the shot: "I came across this beautiful red fox (vulpes vulpes) last week. It was enjoying the last of the evening sun beside a wheat field near Charlbury.

Witney Gazette:

"The sun was behind me so I managed to creep quite close through the long grass to snap this portrait."

Another stunning shot was Stephen Pimm's photograph of a red kite flying, the way the light hits the body of the bird helping to showcase its impressive plumage.

Next week's theme is 'night'.
